MONTANA YOUTH ATHLETICS

Today's youth athletes are tomorrow's champions! As the #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport, track & field, long distance running, and race walking offer a variety of competitive and fitness opportunities. Youth competitions takes place in 2-year age divisions, from 10 & under through 17-18.

Youth meets and races are often more than competition--they're also fun! And, regardless of whether young athletes achieve a personal best, win a medal, or earn a shot at international competition, they'll have the opportunity to make new friends--and a lifetime of memories!

USATF's largest youth program is the Junior Olympics, where nearly 70,000 youth athletes compete each year in the Track & Field and Cross Country championships. Many of America's Olympians began as youth athletes, including stars such as Jeremy Wariner, Allyson Felix, Sanya Richards, Bryan Clay, Lauryn Williams, Adam Nelson, Deena Kastor and Meb Keflezighi.

INFORMATION FOR COACHES AND TEAMS

JO entry forms:  1. Athletes addresses should be their own, not the coaches.
                                      2. Parents must sign the entry form.  Coaches should not sign this
form due to current liability concerns.
The USATF form moves from the Association meet to the
Regional meet to the National meet so once parents sign they
will not have to sign again.. This also the case for the birth
                                          date verification.

JO Relay Rosters:  1. Rosters must be turned in at the start of the Association
                                              meet.
      2. List all athletes on your team in the age division of the relay
(ie. All midget boys) even if you do not plan to run them.
This is in case something comes up and you need to change
your runners in order to still have a relay team.
                  3. Put a check next to the six (6) athletes most likely to run in
the relay.  The entry fee covers these six athletes.
      4. At Nationals, you can change from the six athletes check to
others on the relay roster by getting a change form at packet
pick-up at least 2 hours before the scheduled beginning of the
race.
      5.Please type the roster form.
      6. Coaches, if possible, put their cell phone number on the form.

Drug Testing:Random drug test will be done on Intermediates and Young Men &
                                   Women at all National Championships.

Background checks:  To be a team in Good Standing, teams must have coaches and
volunteers get a background check.  USATF is providing the
service on-line at a cost of $8/check (they will cover the
additional $10 of the cost).  The consequences of not having
coaches in good standing will be the revocation of insurance
provided by being a USATF team.  Also, to be implemented
in 2010, free admission into the national meets will be
withheld if a coach is not in good standing.   The screener
being used is TC LogiQ.  Go through the USATF web site
not through TC LogiQ.
